About Us

Mission Statement

At Salt Lake City's Queer Cinema Club, our mission is to unite the LGBTQ+ community, its allies, and all film enthusiasts through the celebration of queer cinema. We strive to create a space where everyone feels welcome, valued, and free to express their unique perspectives.

History

The Queer Cinema Club was born from a desire to bring the communal experience of cinema to the forefront. In a world where digital streaming often replaces the traditional movie-going experience, we recognized the need for a space where people could come together to watch films, share their thoughts, and build meaningful connections. Founded by Hunter Metcalf & Henry Tanaka, avid lovers of queer cinema, our club aims to highlight the diversity and richness of LGBTQ+ stories while fostering a supportive and inclusive community.

Vision

Our vision is to be a leading community hub for queer cinema, known for our inclusive and engaging events. We aim to:

  • Celebrate Diversity: Showcase films that represent a wide range of LGBTQ+ experiences, voices, and perspectives.

  • Foster Connection: Create opportunities for meaningful interactions and friendships within our community.

  • Support Filmmakers: Increase visibility for LGBTQ-identified filmmakers and support their creative endeavors.

  • Promote Understanding: Encourage discussions that enhance awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and narratives.

Goals

  • Share Compelling Stories: Present films that captivate, inspire, and resonate with our audience.

  • Increase Visibility: Highlight the work of LGBTQ+ filmmakers and bring their stories to a broader audience.

  • Build Community: Provide a safe and welcoming space where people can connect, share experiences, and feel a sense of belonging.

  • Encourage Creativity: Foster an environment where creative discussions and the sharing of ideas are encouraged and celebrated.

Our mission is to unite the LGBTQ+ community, its allies, and all film enthusiasts through the celebration of queer cinema.

“Getting together with a bunch of queers is just good for the soul!”
